HEAT Simsbury Ice Cream Ride
August 9, 2020 @ 10:30 am - 2:30 pm
Event Navigation
24 mile mostly flat ride around Simsbury & Farmington River Valley with tiny hills as the route passes into pastoral Granby with overall ~900 feet of elevation gain.
Course includes one 6ish mile loop of the Simsbury TryAthlon (kayak, bike, run) bike course – this wicked flat part is also used for the UCONN/Ironhorse half-marathon run course. Unfortunately, we are not riding on the Greenway Trail with a pack of bikes – way too dangerous. You’ll see plenty of surrounding hills including Avon Mountain and Hublein Tower, with the full knowledge we won’t be ascending ANY of them.
Start & Finish at Tulmeadow Farm Ice Cream – consistently named one of the best ice cream locations in the State of CT. It’s made fresh on the premises where you’ll see and smell the cows right in downtown West Simsbury, which was also aptly named, “The Most Boring Town in CT.”
Saving ice cream for the finish – not midpoint for good reason.
Other course highlights include the Simsbury Flower Bridge, 10 out of 37 life-like bronze statues scattered all over town, and the Congregational Church where MLK attended during two college summers he lived in Simsbury, CT.
